I’m always up to the challenge of trying new and interesting foods, especially something made with 100% fruit!  Most sports drinks I think we’ve all tried are quite sweet, usually with artificial sweeteners, so I was really excited to be able to receive a sample from Amara of their 100% Raw Fruit Sports Drink to evaluate and provide my honest review.  When my two bottles of Amara juice drink came, I was quite intrigued to see that the flavor is CoffeeBerry and Maqui Berry.  I have to admit that although I’ve tried a fairly wide and diverse range of foods, I’ve never come across either of these berries in any form, so I had no idea what to expect when I opened it up and took my first sip!  The company recommends drinking this chilled, so I stuck it straight in fridge and let it get nice and cold.

The drink itself is a thin texture – similar to what I would expect for a standard sports drink.  It is a pale yellow in color, not neon rainbows of colors like those artificially enhanced products.  The flavor, while pleasant, is fairly sour and slightly bitter.  For me, I would prefer something with at least a bit more sweetness.  However, while the Amara was not my favorite on its own, I found that it makes a fantastic cocktail mixer!  I filled up a glass with probably about 6 ounces of Amara 100% Raw Fruit Sports Drink and added a shot of original Malibu Coconut Rum.  Wow, the Malibu gave that bit of sweetness and really nicely complements the flavor of the Amara!  I would totally recommend this for people who like mixed drinks that have a complex mix of flavors without being cloyingly sweet!
