With the hot and humid summer quickly on its way, I’m looking for good ways to keep me and my family cool and refreshed, while staying healthy at the same time. I’ve seen these kinds of silicone popsicle molds in past summers and thought about getting a set, but really was worried they wouldn’t be sturdy enough, so when I had a chance to try out this set I was really excited. I’m so glad that my fears were unfounded. First of all the silicone on these is thick and very nice quality. I think that they will stand up to a lot of use. The inside of the cap has two circular ridges that help to make a tight seal. As you can see in my video, they make a great snug fit – if I put water into one, put the lid on, and shake it vigorously, not a drop comes out!
I love the lucite stand – I was afraid I wouldn’t be able to make room for it in my freezer, but it is more compact than I was expecting and fits in with no problem. Even if it didn’t fit, it’s also useful to use for serving the popsicles.
My first go around at making our own ice pops was what I’ll call “smoothie pops”. I blended up a mixture of plain yogurt, orange juice, frozen cherries, half a banana, and a bit of blueberry juice until it was nice and smooth. The openings on the top of the Popze molds were plenty large that it was really easy to pour the mixture out of my blender into the molds without making a mess. This was another time that having the stand was really convenient, since it kept all the molds upright in one place so I could easily pour quickly into all size of them.
I let the mixture freeze overnight and the next day was ready to sample my creation. I’ve found after having several of them now that twisting the bottom and middle of the flexible silicone molds really helps to loosen the ice pop from the mold so that I can easily push it up to enjoy! I love that I am able to customize my own frozen treat, so that I know exactly what ingredients do (and do not!) go into the things that my family eats. This could be especially useful for families with allergy or food intolerance issues, so you make sure that there are no unsafe ingredients. The silicone surface also makes it really easy to clean – I’ve found that a quick rinse with hot water loosens up any residue and I don’t really need to do any scrubbing at all.
