My husband and I are both avid cooks, so our cutting boards are real workhorses in the kitchen. It seems like we’re constantly cutting something up whether it’s a simple sandwich for our kids, chopping veggies to cook for dinner, or carving up a protein. We have gone through a LOT of different cutting boards over the years – either the wooden ones split and crack over time, the plastic ones get so scratched up that they don’t work well anymore, or they get so stained that they don’t seem safe to use anymore. I was really intrigued when I read the details about these Enviroboards. I love the idea of being able to microwave the cutting boards to sterilize them. I was skeptical of the claim that they are scratch and nick resistant, since my previous plastic boards have been awful at scratching, but figured I’d wait to see for myself.

Now that I’ve used these cutting boards myself I am very impressed. First of all, the surface has a very nice texture, smooth but not so slick that food would roll right off and the backside has a bumpy surface that helps to keep it from sliding too much along my countertops. When I’m cutting food I naturally press down on the board with my hand, and that pressure helps those bumps to keep the cutting board in place.  The narrow well around the edges of the board helps to keep liquid from running off the cutting boards and making a mess on the counters and floors. My skepticism about the scratch resistance was unnecessary. I have used these boards with very sharp knives and somehow they really do not show any scratches, dents, or nicks – not even a mark left behind!

The way that the tab folds out to lock the cutting board in a rolled up shape is so clever – I’ve never seen a design quite like it. Locking it in this shape is great for when I need to pour items off into a pot, pan, or mixing bowl since I can do the transfer with a single hand, not having to use my other hand to keep the board rolled up. This also enables what may be the coolest feature of the Enviroboards, the fact that they can be put in the microwave for a minute to actually sterilize them! When they are rolled up, they easily fit in my standard size microwave. They also are dishwasher safe, although so far I’ve been able to just handwash them, but it’s great to know that I can pop them in the dishwasher if I’m short on time.

The boards also just look really nice in my kitchen. The colors are bright and vibrant and they have cute little icons marking each one as being for either veggies, poultry, or fish. I’m not sure that I’m going to keep strictly to these three designations, but it’s still handy having them be different colors so that if I’m using more than one at once, I can easily keep track of which one is which and not accidentally cross-contaminate my food. Overall these are very sturdy and I think we’ll be using them for a long time to come.

I’m very glad that I was able to order this for free as a promotional sample in order to evaluate and provide my honest review.
