I’m so excited to check out this event with my 5 and 7 year old kids.  As a scientist by day myself, I love to find ways to foster a love of science in ways that they can understand.  This looks like a really nicely organized fair, with so many different areas that there’s sure to be something that every kid will enjoy.

It’s right in my neck of the woods too, in the Philadelphia suburbs, at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, January 2 and 3.  You can get a discount too:

Greater Philadelphia Expo Center – January 2 and 3, 2016 Whether or not your child has shown an interest in science, technology, engineering, or math — otherwise known as STEM — there is one event that will definitely spark it. The Young Innovators Fair is a huge event that opens up a world of education and inspiration to young minds, and it’s coming to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on January 2 and 3, 2016.

Google, Pixar, Kahn Academy, FIRST LEGO League, The Academy of Natural Sciences, and 100 additional participants will inspire children in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math with more than 50 exhibits, 40 stage acts, and other surprises. Kids ages 5 to 18 are encouraged to attend and experience this fun, immersive, interactive event that offers countless activities, exhibits, and engaging speakers to get them thinking and get excited about the endless possibilities for innovation.

  • Hackers Hideout: experience Google Expeditions virtual reality and learn Minecraft Mod programming techniques
  • Biologists Bay: interact with underwater ROVs and examine dinosaur skeletons
  • Performers Paradise: make wearable tech, observe a one-man jam, and enjoy performances hosted by the Kimmel Center
  • Numbers Nation: see the latest in math tech and participate in fun math workshops
  • Robots Retreat: program robots and participate in a First LEGO League demonstration
  • Builders Boulevard: see the latest from K’NEX, build with giant bricks, and race constructible trikes
  • Pilots Pad: interact with a full-scale NASA Apollo capsule and launch a mini-rocket
  • Lab-Rats Lair: discover healthy cooking, witness explosive demonstrations, and help create the world’s largest noodle
  • Sorcerers Square: meet Star Wars characters and have access to unique sci-fi merch
  • Conservationists Corner: build a natural water filter, learn to be an environmental architect, and demystify sharks
